Under a direct Rio Tinto contract, Civmec carried out the development of a new fuel facility located between Rio Tinto’s Brockman 2 and Brockman 4 Mine Operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Civmec commenced work on the project in April 2015, with up to 90 workers at the project’s peak.
The vertical package project involved heavy engineering; civil works; Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP); and electrical works. This included the construction of a facility to unload 16 Rail Tank Cars (RTCs) simultaneously into diesel storage tanks (constructed by others), along with a facility to load road tankers. It also included construction of a number of related facilities for minor truck maintenance, and the installation of a fuel management system and fire protection system.
