Civmec was awarded a contract for detailed on site earthworks and in situ concrete at the Yandi Junction South West (JSW), Central and Junction South East (JSE) areas. This was followed with a contract for the supply, fabrication and installation of Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) works at the JSE Wet Plant.
The Yandi Sustaining Project has an objective to extend the life of the mine site and expand the mine’s capacity from 53 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 56 Mtpa. The construction of a second wet processing plant enables further expansion of the mine’s capacity.
Civmec’s scope of works included:
- Installation of foundations, slabs and equipment supports for the iron ore processing plant
- Fabrication of structural and piping at our heavy engineering facility
- Offsite modularisation and onsite SMP assembly, including the wet plant, conveyor systems and major tie-ins into the existing plant
In total, we delivered approximately 27,000m3 of concrete, 6,500 tonnes of structural steel, 4,000 tonnes of mechanical items, 20km of fabricated piping, 15,000m2 of grating, 10,000 linear metres of handrail for the Yandi Sustaining Project. Our peak manning levels reached around 700.
Although the contract originally required modules to be fully stick built on site, with the Civmec team’s knowledge and experience we were able to assemble 94 modules off site. This removed over 23,500 man hours from site and allowed additional work fronts to be utilised on site, thus creating a safer and more efficient project delivery.
