The awards follow the project’s earlier success at the 2025 Austroads Bridge Awards in June, where it was named ‘Best Structure Over 35 Metres’.
The Footbridge Awards ceremony was held in Chur, Switzerland. Boorloo Bridge was awarded the Jonathan Speirs Lighting Award, with judges noting the bridge’s lighting design demonstrated “a striking amount of innovation” and “expresses joie de vivre”.
At the Engineers Australia Excellence Awards, Boorloo Bridge was named Western Australia’s ‘Project of the Year’. The award recognised the bridge’s world-first fully integrated cable-stay dynamic LED lighting system, its use of Grade 400 MPa weathering steel to reduce long-term maintenance, and its contribution to advancing bridge engineering in Australia.
The Boorloo Bridge project was delivered through an integrated alliance comprising Civmec, Seymour Whyte Constructions, WSP, and Main Roads Western Australia. It officially opened to the public on 22 December 2024.
