Yesterday, Civmec employees at our major facilities Henderson, Newcastle and projects participated in Clean up Australia Day – an event that has been running since 1989 and has become Australia’s largest community-based environment event.
In the past 27 years, Australians have devoted more than 32 million hours towards the environment through Clean Up Australia Day and collected over 344 thousand tonnes of rubbish.
This event turned into a world-wide event in 1993, called Clean Up the World – which now sees over 40 million people from 30 countries annually take part. This demonstrated that people across the planet are willing to do something themselves to help protect and care for the environment.
At Civmec, we collected approximately 120 kgs of rubbish, with some of the interesting items including windscreen wipers, car tyre caps.
Thank you to all our employees who were willing to give up some of their day to participate in this event – helping to clean up, fix up and conserve the environment.
