The pair’s vision when Civmec commenced operations in 2009, was to bring to the Australian construction industry a multi-disciplined organisation offering diversified core capabilities, based on the foundation of a skilled workforce focused on self-performance. In just 10 short years, Civmec has come a long way in fulfilling this vision.
Mr Fitzgerald said: “It is a great honour to receive this award. If I look back on the last 10 years, what strikes me as our biggest strength, is our ability to continue to adapt, evolve and innovate. We have been able to carve out our competitive advantage by driving and unlocking the value of innovation, developing long-term strategic partnerships, and diversifying our offering to meet changing market needs.”
Over the past decade, the company has completed work on some of Australia’s largest and most prestigious projects, including the Gorgon, Wheatstone and Ichthys LNG projects, maintenance contracts for Rio Tinto, BHP, FMG and Roy Hill, and projects that have transformed Perth’s landscape, including Elizabeth Quay, Perth Stadium and the Matagarup Bridge. Most recently, Civmec has been awarded a major contract to deliver the Offshore Patrol Vessel program for the Royal Australian Navy.
Mr Tallon said: “Civmec’s success has only been made possible because we have continued to build our suite of capabilities, through the talent and commitment of our workforce, responding to the needs of our clients to provide them with a truly holistic service offering. Our ability to self-perform today is a testament to the quality of workmanship and skill we have grown over the years.”
Mr Fitzgerald and Mr Tallon join other outstanding entrepreneurs from across Australia who will compete for the ultimate prize of being named the 2019 Australian EY Entrepreneur of the Year, joining their fellow state finalists at the National Awards Ceremony in Sydney on October 31.
